False attributions
Ensemble Clematis
Conductor: Brice Sailly
Coline Dutilleul: mezzo-soprano
In the 18th century, ‘false attributions’ tended to enrich the catalogue of reputed masters... This is the case with a Salve Regina attributed to Pergolesi and the sublime Pianto di Maria, long thought to be by Handel, which has been attributed to its composer, Giovanni Battista Ferrandini. But didn't these misattributions help to ensure that these works achieved the posterity they so richly deserved? The libretto of the Pianto di Maria presents us with the entire scene of Christ's Passion, but here the central character is the Virgin Mary, a weeping mother faced with the drama unfolding before her eyes. Vivaldi's Church Sonata serves as the overture to this lamentation of the Virgin Mary.
Programme:
Giovanni Battista Vitali: Sinfonia a 6
Giovanni Battista Pergolesi : Salve Regina
Antonio Vivaldi: Sonata al Sacro Sepulcro
Giovanni Battista Ferrandini: Pianto di Maria
